When the weather cooperates and we have conditions that are favorable to catching Sailfish the BITE IS ON!

During several recent trips we have had 10 to 15 chances a day. On one recent trip we started our morning trolling dead bait looking for an area that was holding Sailfish. After a couple of hours we had only seen a couple of fish and things were not looking favorable. We decided to make a move and ran several miles north which put us east of the Ft. Pierce inlet in 140? of water. The conditions looked good so I decided to use live bait and as I was putting the first line out a Sail flared up on the bait, whacked it a couple of times and ate. During the next couple of hours we had 7 more chances. We managed to catch about half of those fish with a crew that had never caught a Sail.
The following day we were greeted with very light winds from the southwest. After fishing for several hours we only managed a few Dolphin and Bonitos. I moved a little inshore and found an area that had a significant amount of bait where we caught several Bonito. Each time as we got near the bait the Bonito would strike all of our lines. Being persistent paid off?finally a Sailfish found one of our baits before the Bonitos. After a brief fight we returned to the same pattern and managed to find another Sail using the same approach. This was one of those days when conditions were not favorable and few Sailfish were caught. We were fortunate to be able to catch each of our anglers the fish they wanted.
We are now waiting for a cold front to pass and the sea conditions to return to a level that is comfortable for our anglers. After a cold front passes you never know what you will find but I am looking forward to getting out there and seeing what surprises are in store.
Good luck and remember you can?t catch?em at the dock.
