Sailfishing on Florida’s East Coast

Fishing for Sailfish in Stuart Florida has its advantages. In fact, Stuart is known as the "Sailfish Capital of the World." Beginning in early December and lasting through early March we have the best Sailfishing available anywhere. While everyday is not productive for the Sails, we have days where we catch double-digit numbers of Sailfish. During this period we also catch Dolphin, Bonito, King Mackerel plus many other species. If catching a Sailfish is one of your dreams, we recommend you make your plans to fish with one of our Captains and that dream will become a reality. If fishing during the winter is not possible, we have a large year-round resident population of Sailfish that enables us to catch Sails any time of the year. At times during the summer months we have a Sail bite that rivals what we experience during the winter. Catching a Sailfish is always a good possibility when fishing in Stuart.

We catch Sailfish using a number of different tactics. The most common method is to troll ballyhoo in areas where Sails are likely to be located. Trolling enables us to cover more area and gives our baits much more exposure than other methods. Slow-trolling live bait is another highly effective method that is frequently used when live bait is available. The key to being successful is to understand the conditions that are occurring and to employ the most effective method that is available for those particular conditions. During the course of a fishing day the conditions may change forcing us to change our strategy so that we are constantly using the most effective approach to catch fish.

Our Captains specialize in catch and release Sailfish on light tackle. When your turn comes and the cobalt blue water explodes with that trophy fish on your line - savor the moment! Capturing a big game trophy fish is a team effort. Regardless of the tackle we are using, catching a Sailfish on light tackle is a real challenge and loads of fun.

Many times our customers want details about mounting a trophy fish. Modern day marine taxidermy eliminates our having to kill a fish in order to obtain a replica trophy mount. Space age resins now make it possible to create a mount that is virtually maintenance free and will not age or discolor as most skin mounts have in the past. If you are considering mounting a fish let our Captains know. When a fish is caught we will take some good pictures and take the measurements that are needed so that the taxidermist can complete the mounting of the fish. After we have caught the fish and obtained the information that we need you can make a decision regarding mounting the fish after we are back at the dock. We are taxidermy agents and will be happy to provide you will all the details about mounting your fish.
